Land Of The Elephants

A large drop of sun lingers: lazy in it’s goodbyes

A warm breath caresses under the African sky

A galaxy of stars shimmer: a breathtaking sight

Acoustical wings like gossamer lace: crickets serenading the night

Slipping through the shadows: slithering through the trees

Whispers of nocturnal life romancing the mellow breeze

Africa’s night: seductive, sticky and dark

A gentle humming of mosquitoes: a zebra’s warning bark

Buffaloes poised: lion’s tawny eyes seeking battle

A buffalo breaks rank: fearsome growls and suffocating death rattle

The half moon rises: ghosting through the night

Survival of the fittest: the power of might

Whoop whoop of the hyena slices into the shadows

Seductive glow of the river as she undulates and flows

Trunks raised in silent prayer, elephants turn east and face the dawn

An echo of harmony in the fresh golden morn

Elephants full of unwavering honesty amble out and into the light

Impala and water buck poised for flight

Elephants at peace: in silence they tread

Weaving their magic: a golden thread

The pulse of Africa beats strong beneath their feet

Power of giants where Continent and elephants meet

Magical ivories held captive: illuminated in the sunlight

Creamy rich treasures: cause of the elephant’s plight

Russet leaves adorn the sun kissed trees

Reflections dancing on the river swirling with ease

Wisps of clouds like gauzy curtains drawn across the sky

The fresh sweet decay of buffalo dung: squadrons of flies

Elephants the essence of this harsh and timeless land

Whirlwinds of destruction: death by the human hand

Africa’s sun: a fiery promise to each bright new day

In this land of constant movement: for peace, I pray
