Batting For Life

Sun washed African bush pulsating: Nature’s song

An orchestra of crickets serenading the Continents’ allure strong

Africa’s midnight robe: seductive and black

Sanguine half moon resting on her back

Violence and destruction spreading its wings over this timeless land

Blood red prints staining the sand

Elephants massacred in large numbers: men greedy for ‘white gold’

Rhinos, their horns removed: a cocktail for customs of old

Fear echoes fear: frantic drum beating within

Ivory and horns fashioned into trinkets: a deadly sin

Sowing seeds of violence

A reflection on how we treat one another

Heavy silence of loss: a life taking smother.

The battle to save our wildlife, a deep desire burns within

Tusk, fighting against this violence: so deadly and grim

Rwandan genocide: atrocious bloodbath

War machine feeding on humans: tragic aftermath

Anger of the Gods: tears of needle like rain fall

Rivers of blood turn into red mud: a gruesome sight that should appall

A conscious choice of the elite to promote hatred and fear

An insidious enemy: evil persecution smear

World watching: sharing the shame of these crimes

Brushstrokes of bloodshed during these violent times.

Cancer knows no age, colour or creed

Striking without conscience and unquenchable greed

No storm warnings: echoing trance

Life changing journeys without a second glance

Fighting spirits battling this disease

Shaped by buffeting winds: a controlling unease

The fight for life more precious than gold

Painful stretching of the heart: desperate to grow old

Many victims from these three battles lie in empty silence

Two teams of cricketers will raise funds by batting against this violence

‘Mt. Kili Madness’: mountain climb and cricket way above the clouds

T20 players footprints in Kili’s crater sand: un-cowed

Rolling out a cricket pitch donated by Flicx

A game of cricket will ensue: there will be no tricks

Raising funds and awareness: uniting through sport

Batting against violence: compassion to court

Where there is sickness, bring healing

Where there is darkness: rivers of light

Shoulder to shoulder: winning these fights

Batting for freedom and batting for life

A deep passion for living: a freedom to breath

Survivors of these battles are living to bequeath.

‘Balance, peace and beauty enfolding the earth

Revering all living things: A sunrise: rebirth.’
